Properly Pronouncing God’s Name

Read Acts 14:10-12

Jesus is at the center of our Christian faith, but have you ever stopped to consider the multiple ways we pronounce His name?

In North America we call the Hebrew Messiah ‘Jesus’, but in Spanish speaking nations He is called ‘Hesus’. In other nations his name is pronounced even more differently: in Latin it is Iēsus, then there is the Hebrew Yeshua. He is also known by other names. The scriptures also calls Him Emmanuel. There are over 50 names, titles and characteristics attributed to Jesus. See this site for a complete listing. (Names of Jesus)

Of Her Seed (Your Offspring)

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” – Genesis 3:15, (NIV)

Soon after the fall of man God declares there is one to come who will defeat Satan. God proclaims this one will come from the offspring of the woman not the man. The Word of God is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Most High God, through whom God has spoken and revealed all that is of His Truth (John 1:1-5, Hebrews 11:3, Romans 4:17). Torah (teaching, law or instruction) is only a small element, that which He used to teach of greater things (Colossians 2:16-17, Hebrews 8:1-13, Hebrews 10:1-10), namely His Son and all the promises He had made complete through Him (John 13:16, Hebrews 3:1-6, Hebrews 9:11-27). This is the fullness of His Word, His love and desire to save man through the complete work of His Son, Jesus, who walked before God in perfect obedience to offer Himself for all who would believe in Him (John 6:29, John 17:20-21, 1 […]

There is a growing controversy over the correct name to use for talking about, Jesus, the Son of the Most High God. For some it seems, the only correct name to use is Jesus’ Hebrew name Yeshua. There are many excellent, detailed articles (such as this one) about how we in America have come to call the Messiah, our Savior, “Jesus”. Let’s take a different look on the subject.

How Jesus Answered

When John the baptist was locked up in prison, he sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was the Christ, the One they had been waiting for. Jesus, in His wise way of answering John’s request, gives us even more insight about Himself. Matthew 11:4-6 […]
